Let me start off by saying I can talk about this now after a lot of time has past and it is finally well with my soul. This is how the first Tuesday of December went. How do I know it was the first Tuesday of December you may ask? Because I was dressed and ready to go with keys in my hand to go to BUNKO.
Mom have you ever heard about the bugs that live in your hair that are small and can make you itch? (Madalyn) Yes, where did you hear about them? (Me) In school at health class. (Mad) How long ago did you hear about them? (Me) About 2 weeks ago. (Mad) I am thinking she is hypochondriac this point but I proceed to check her out. I see white things but I am thinking dandruff definitely dandruff. I call in Steve. He looks then he looks at me to make sure what we are seeing is actually what we are seeing. Yes Madalyn had friends.
What do you do at that point? I take a deep breath and just have no idea what is ahead of us. I run to CVS and pick up my treatment of choice. I picked out the deluxe pack because we are going to eradicate every one of those beasts that chose my daughter! Of course while we were there we ran into someone I know and they ask why we were there and I was MORTIFIED! She saw the box and politely shares that she has been there done that. She warned me how you really have to stay on top of it and take it seriously. Her daughter passed it to the other siblings and they ended up having to cut her hair.
We get home and Steve is vacuuming and we take sheets off, coats go in the attic, stuffed animals are gone, brushes in bleach. You get the point. Then Steve has to leave for Tulsa. What can he do to help. Her little head is only big enough for one of us. Madalyn and I stay up for 2 hours so I can pick out every one of her pals.
The next day I call my wonderful friend who tells me about a treatment that is not toxic and we can do it as many times as we want. You lather it on pick out the friends and blow dry the hair. It suffocates them like sealing them with plastic wrap. We pick for another hour and a half and have a fun day at home.
Poor Norah gets treated too. I came to the conclusion if Miles got it I would shave him bald because there was no way I was going to do that with a 2 year old. Steve was gone and stayed away and I just got my hair done and was not going to ruin that good work due to those little home wreckers!
Why am I spilling the beans now one may ask. Many reasons. First I have to brag on Madalyn because she was such a great sport. We really had a nice time together and she was so patient. It was great getting to stick with her for hours that week.
Another is it is so ta bu. I shared to few people but it was amazing how many had had it before or their kids have had it. It really bonds you because they know the torture you are undergoing. No one wants to admit it or say it but once the cat is out of the bag usually someone is there that can empathize with you. Madalyn was so funny because she would just come out and say it. No shame at all!
Saying I am glad it is over is an understatement. Every time I would scratch my head I thought I was being invaded. I have never done so much laundry in my life or so concerned other members of my family would get it. We were successful! No one else got it and it was over in 2 weeks.
Now we are one month out and I am still looking in her hair (habit) but so far so good. If anyone needs any treatment supplies I am your girl. I have plenty left over. And one more thing. If any of my friends get it just know I will pick it out for you! My biggest relief was when my dear sweet friend Brandi offered to help me out if I ever needed it. THANK YOU BRANDI! Because of her I could sleep knowing I would not have to get my head shaved. You can't ask someone to do that for you!
So now we can jot that one down in the Book of Experiences for us and I pray we never get it again!
